ABOUT THE FUND
Our Future Depends on
Supporting Our Children
Fostering the healthy development of young children contributes to the well-being of our entire city. Voting Yes on Measure A will establish the Santa Cruz Children's Fund, which will provide resources for services like childcare, after-school programs, and scholarships for summer and outdoor learning opportunities.
A YES vote will make early education and childcare more affordable for working families. This will benefit the economy and workforce for years to come, as well as help kids at a critical period of brain development.
Children and youth do not have a voice in local governance issues, and therefore receive inadequate resources for the services they need. That's why they need YOU to vote YES on Measure A.
The Santa Cruz Children's Fund is created using a portion of the existing Cannabis Business Tax. It will not increase the Cannabis Business Tax, or any other tax whatsoever.
Voting YES on Measure A will simply allow an increased allocation of existing funds to support children’s services. In fact, the Children’s Fund already exists, adopted by the Santa Cruz City Council in 2017. It was successful in providing needed childcare during the pandemic and scholarships for lower income students. A YES vote will formally enshrine the fund in our city budget for years to come, regardless of the City Council’s political leanings.
Measure A creates a Community Oversight Committee to ensure that there is input from trusted children's program partners in decision-making about how the money will be spent.
Our children have the right to know their community will provide the services they need to thrive. Yet too many have been left behind.
Together, we can make a commitment to every child’s future. Vote YES on November 2nd, 2021.
